My pregnancy with Macy was with filled with uncertainty. She was diagnosed with SUA (single umbilical artery) in utero which can lead to restricted growth and miscarriage. SUA is often combined with chromosome disorders and other serious abnormalities, which Macy did not have (Praise God). I was closely monitored throughout the entire pregnancy, receiving monthly ultrasounds to monitor her growth. Macy was born at 39 weeks at a whopping 8lbs! No growth concerns whatsoever. What the doctor did discover was a miracle. Not only did Macy thrive off of only one umbilical artery (there are normally two), there was a tight knot in her umbilical cord, which ultimately restricts blood flow and nutrients to the baby. The doctor was amazed and remarked about what a fighter Macy is. One tough little girl.
And if that wasn't enough for her to go through, Macy had to have hemangioma removal surgery at only 6 months old. http://piercebabies.blogspot.com/2008/12/blog-post.html
I will forever be grateful for our Macy Moo. Our miracle. Our beautiful baby girl.
