Tucker -vs- H1N1 Shot
Tucker normally does just fine with getting shots, so no worries when I took him yesterday to get his H1N1 vaccine. He watched the nurse as she got everything ready, rubbed the area of his leg with alcohol, etc. He was actually just lying there playing a game on my iPhone like the shot was no.big.deal. WELL, the minute the shot broke the skin, he started screaming hysterically and crying big crocodile tears. My little man was so upset. Those big brown sad puppy dog eyes just broke my heart! Once he calmed down enough to speak, he said, "That lady needs to be more careful! Didn't she see me there on that table? Didn't she see that I'm just a little boy? You're supposed to be careful with little kids. I want to go back to Dr. Sue. Dr. Sue is always so careful with me." (Dr. Sue is our previous pediatrician. We recently switched to a new pediatrician closer to home). Then, he was pitiful about not getting a kid-friendly band aid for his shot. "Dr. Sue always gives me a cartoon band aid." So, we headed to Walgreen's so he could pick out band aids that would make him feel better. :) He was also upset about not getting a sticker like he always does at Dr. Sue's office...something tells me I need to come prepared with band aids and stickers next time! You would think that would be standard at a pediatrician's office?

My mom said that the H1N1 shot hurt more than any other shot she's ever gotten, and was very sore for days! Poor Tuck!
I am surprised that the pediatrician's office did not give stickers, cartoon bandaids, etc!! Poor Tucker, he had a right to complain! Even Clay gets to choose a sticker and gets a dum- dum lollipop! I have heard the H1N1 does hurt more. We need to get our shots.
Poor little guy - I bet that did break your heart. I am shocked that Tucker did not get a sticker. We are there (same pediatrician's office!) on a regular basis it seems and Savannah ALWAYS gets a sticker (being seen for ANY reason) and gets a pencil when she gets shots. I can't believe the nurse didn't give him a sticker at least!
