I've come to terms with the fact that I'm no Martha Stewart, but I can still dream, right? Sadly, my baking and cooking skills are mediocre, at best. Nonetheless, I recently stumbled across the sweetest of all cake pans at Williams Sonoma that I just HAVE TO get my hands on. I keep thinking how it would make the perfect 1st birthday cake for Miss Macy. Who doesn't love a giant cupcake?!

While at Williams Sonoma, I found two other cake pans that I just adore: a train for Tucker and girly bugs for Macy. I would like to start a tradition of making their birthday cakes in these pans, even if it's just for our family celebration.

Below is the train cake that my mom and I made for Tucker's 2nd birthday. It isn't the greatest looking, but I think it turned out pretty darn cute, especially considering it was the first time either of us had attempted a 3-dimensional cake. It would have been much easier, had we known about a train mold!
Perhaps I should take a cake decorating class...if I could only find the time!

I think Tucker's train cake looks GREAT! I wouldn't have known it wasn't from a train cake pan if you wouldn't have said anything. Good work!
You and your mom did an AWESOME job on Tucker's cake! I love the idea of making special cakes for your children each year - that would be a special tradition, especially since you have such fond memories of your grandmother's birthday cakes for you. I remember the great cakes she always made for Clay's birthdays as well!
How cute!! I am going to "attempt" a 3-dimensional cake for Collin's first birthday coming up in December. I'm scared to death, but I think it's so special that you at least try and do it with love! :)
Love those cake pans!! Too cute!
I've been dying to make a pie from scratch one of these days. Maybe we can get together and battle out the pies and cakes! I'll need support!
