Tucker Updates

Tucker started swimming lessons this week. The first day his behavior was somewhat embarrassing. He definitely has a mind of his own, and doesn't always follow directions well, to put it nicely! I hear from my family that he gets that from me. :) It seems he and this other little girl immediately teamed up together and started their own little "swim lessons" of sorts. Instead of listening to the teachers, he and Mia can normally be found conversing on their own, straying away from the group, or partaking in splashing water on one another. His poor, poor swim instructors!

Day 2 and 3 went much better. Of course he was given a lecture on behaving from Richard and I. And I reminded him all day long about our expectations. I was quite surprised that the kids actually went into the 8 ft. water without any floating device, and walked themselves around the pool using their arms. Tucker wasn't so sure about that at first and insisted on pulling himself out of the pool entirely. For my little man who normally has no fear, I was surprised by that! I did fail to mention though that he recently had a swimming experience that actually scared him, so he has been a bit more hesitant in the pool than he was last summer.

I've made mention of Tucker's eating habits previously, but let me expand. It is often like pulling teeth just to get him to eat. Well, should I say, eat a meal, and preferably something healthy. He would snack on cereal, crackers, or fruit snacks all day if I allowed him to! I used to think that this lack of desire to eat was because he just had too much energy to sit still and eat a meal. But now that he is three, he should be able to sit still long enough to eat. This is something that we are really working on, and it's so frustrating for me. He throws a fit. Yes, he gets in trouble for it. But it just keeps happening. And it's stressful! I, for one, just don't understand how someone can NOT like to eat! He definitely doesn't take after the rest of us! :) Any suggestions???

Notice the bruise on his chin. It was a nasty DARK reddish purple eye sore. And how, might you ask, did that happen? By jumping off of the couch and hitting his chin on the coffee table. Ouch.

Awww, he looks so innocent and sweet here. He's fooling you! ;)

This is what happens when I ask for a smile.

And this.

You may want to try the book Love and Logic! It has some good ideas. Remember it doesn't change the bahavior overnight but it moves it in the right direction! Good luck.

Love and Logic? Well, hmmm....I have it sitting right here on my bed side table. I guess I should wipe the dust off of it and dive in! Heehee.
